It takes a lifetime to play music with the intensity found
on Pianist John F. Hammonds self- titled debut release
on Rhombus Records. A true working musicians hero, Hammond
delivers 10 stunning and courageously revealing duo tracks.
Hammonds take on up-tempo standards like Stella
By Starlight are technically terrifying. His quirky
selections of material such as Surfer Girl show
his daring musical sense of humor. His life-experienced interpretations
of ballads like Why Did I Choose You leave listeners
breathless and the room silent.
Accompanied by veteran bassists Jim Hughart, Andy Simpkins,
Putter Smith, and Tom Warrington, Hammond lays it all on the
line - every time! This is Jazz in its purest and best form-
relentlessly swinging, recklessly inventive, and emotionally
giving. Even the most seasoned and famous musicians have been
known to sit at the end of Johns Piano, only to be dumbfounded
by his skill and moved to tears by his emotional investment.
This CD is the first glimpse into an artist that has been
an underground mystery for years. Now, this musical giant
is emerging from the darkness to plant both feet firmly in
the spotlight. Ladies and gentlemen, Rhombus Records now introduces
you to John F. Hammond.
Watching John play is to observe a master at work.
- Al Martinez, LA Times
John Hammond is maybe the best kept secret in LA
folks - one hell of a Piano player."
- Chuck Niles, KKJZ 88.1 FM
John Hammond is one of the Southlands great
Jazz Treasures. - Don Heckman, LA Times

In the Seventies, the
group called RASTUS ,from Cleveland, Ohio , was a popular Horn
band, in the style of the groups Chicago and Tower Of Power,
and toured the U.S. on the same bill with those bands and others.
RASTUS recorded two albums to rave reviews and had a large
fan base until the group , after many personal changes, finally
disbanded in the late seventies.
The two albums, Live and Steamin,
after their record companies went out of business, were lost
to music fans. With the help of RASTUS Sax player Michael
The Frist Geraci, Rhombus Records was able to
find and digitally recreate RASTUS Steamin, along
with six bonus tracks of songs that were recorded and never
released before. Even a live version of Road Rat
appears.
Rhombus Records is proud to present this reissue to the music
world and hopes that everyone will enjoy this chance to revisit
this great era of music and time. Songs include; Lucy Bluebird,
Love You, Big City Letdown Blues and I-94 Riff.
